Crocodile Farm Visit
The tour to the Crocodile Farm which is about 5 kms. from town, by 27 Pre-School, Gr. 1-and 4 teachers took place on 27th July 2022.
The tour guide was very forthcoming with his information which helped relax the tense kids!
He held and talked about a harmless brown house snake. The more adventurous kids took turns to hold it.
Tortoises live only on land and are mainly vegetarian. There were a couple of these and an old turtle which lives in water most of the time and ventures on land sometimes. The kids were keen to know what the turtle feeds on: frogs and mushroom when the latter is in season, they were informed.
There was a huge albino crocodile with two different colour eyes. One white, the other blue! Its body had two different colours too! Grey on the outer part, white on the belly and tail! When the kids were told that the albino crocodile has to be on its own because if put with other crocodiles that were different, there would be total war! There was a collective WOW!
The croc farm has twenty-nine female crocs and only one 60 year old male named Nagana, who has seventy-two teeth, according to the guide. There were about 30 hatchlings and teachers along with some brave older kids held one in their shaky hands!
Apparently, an average male crocodile can jump up to 2 metres high when in water and weighs a massive 600 kilograms!
The same courageous kids went on to see more snakes which included puff udder, python, black mamba and cobra.
Lunch from Hungry Lion was a wonderful treat for everybody!
Ever heard of an appeaser who feeds the crocodile hoping it would eat him last?
