e-Hemp Farm Visit – Term 2, 2022

The Kool Kidz Upper Multi-Grade class (Gr. 5-7) had the pleasure of visiting the e-Hemp farm in Sinkobo about 33 kilometres north of Livingstone town on 18th May, 2022 as part of their termly educational tour.

e-Hemp farm practices organic farming which is an agricultural system that uses fertilizer of organic origin such as compost manure and emphasises techniques such as crop rotation.

The children spent the whole morning and part of the afternoon on the farm where they learnt, among other things, two important activities that make e-Hemp Farm an organic farm:

• Making its own organic fertilizer.
• Using organic pesticide such as chilli.

The tour guide also pointed out the importance of using organic fertilizer:

• It is readily affordable.
• The organic weed killers do not contaminate soil, water table or other plants nor animal life.
• It increases the level of production as it stimulates rapid growth.
• The organic fertilizer reduces the need for pesticide.

With the newly acquired knowledge from the tour farm visit, learners were more than happy to share this valuable information with their families.
